Santa fe Zoo Medellin

Voted by many as one of the best things to do in Medellin and one of the most interesting places to go, founded in September 1959, the Santa Fe Zoo has an animal population of 1,300 species from the Americas mostly.

Among the many mammals, birds, reptiles and other species, the animals that most attracts attention from visitors are lions, Bengal tigers, zebras, spectacled bears, harpy eagles, hippos and the Andean condor.

This zoo-park also has more than five hundred different species of trees and shrubs, in order to contribute with the conservation of wildlife and nature.

Medellin’ zoo, Santa Fe is dedicated to educate people from all ages about wildlife from around the world, about the importance of protecting species in danger of extinction, the characteristics of different species, the environment they need to survive and the role of these within their respective ecosystems.

Santa Fe zoo offers guided tours through their butterfly garden, the vivarium, the House Museum Santa Fe, where they keep artistic and historical objects from the early twentieth century.

The zoo has environmental education programs, captive breeding programs, rehabilitation and reintroduction of endangered wildlife species. It has a science club for children between 6 and 14, where kids can learn to recognize species of wild animals, have a night safari, explore artistic and educational workshops, puppet creation and recreational vacations, among others.
