A cultural icon in Medellin’s downtown
Built inside a historic construction and in the middle of a parque, a hub of culture and dozens of things to do in Medellin, The Museum of Modern Art (MAMM), dedicated to research, conservation and dissemination in the field of modern and contemporary art and the cultural development of the city, has two locations; one is located in the Linear park Ciudad del Rio and the other in the Carlos E. Restrepo neighborhood.
Popularly known as “The MAMM”, the Museum of Modern Art of Medellin was founded in 1978. It has more than 200 works of Master Debora Arango, the largest collection of this renowned painter. The Ministry of Culture of Colombia declared the works in this collection as Cultural National Interest in 2004.
The site also holds other important works of artists of national and international recognition as Enrique Grau, Oscar Muñoz, Manuel Hernandez, Jorge Julian Aristizabal, Hernando Tejada, Ethel Gilmour, Álvaro Barrios, Hugo Zapata and Beatriz Gonzalez.
Since its opening, the Museum of Modern Art of Medellin has worked to be not only as a museum, but a place for meetings and surprise,in order to hold different artistic and cultural events, to convene diverse audiences.
After more than three decades of work, the MAMM is still committed to provide versatile, flexible and adaptable conditions for nowadays demanding artists and creators, in order to address the publics demands and rising expectations responding to this new mutating and evolving reality.
An extensive number of permanent and temporary exhibitions are displayed in the museum for the delight of its many visitors.
Scheduled Free guided tours are offered to the general public during the Museum hours. For up to 20 people, the tour lasts 1 hour approximately. Attendance must be confirmed in advance.
