This 3,000 hectare property is owned by the Colombian Government, the town of Puerto Triunfo and the National Penitentiaries Department, which currently builds a prison there.

The Hacienda Napoles themed park generates 250 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs, and it’s estimated that at least 300 families benefit indirectly by the project. Tourism and park activities are complimentary to the economy of the region.

The place is visited by more than 50,000 people every year and it is estimated that by 2014 this figure will be around 500,000. Hacienda Napoles as theme park offers guided tours, a house-museum displaying images and memories of what little was left of its former owner, as well as a bar and restaurant, bike rides and a wildlife sanctuary including some of the exotic animals brought in by Escobar, like hippos and zebras. The place also has camping area, a butterfly garden, a five-star hotel and a Jurassic Park with huge dinosaur figures.

The park is open from 8:00 a.m until 5:00 pm and it’s closed on the first working day of the week (Monday or Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday).
